DDO Memory Hog....
In update 19 or 18 DDO added a some processes to the Windows OS , so when you pick the player you want to play, DDO starts to load at least 5 or 6 processes, which causes your PC to lag or delay what your doing, while playing the game. Supposily thesae processes are needeed for the In-Game browser functions like the DDO store or for the forums, when it asks you to login. For the most part it is not needed unless you plan on buying something from the DDO store, while playing the game, so buy what you need before hand, and do a Cntl+ALT+Delete. all at the same time, and start the Task Manager in Windows, click on Processes, and look for a series of items called AwesomiumProcess.exe !!!!
Please make sure you log into your toon you are going to be playing, before going to the task manager.
Click on the AwesomiumProcess.exe and right mouse click and select END Process Tree...
Do this for every instance there is running... If you don't wait till you log in to your toon there will be more instances running after you login or the game may crash, I haven't tried ending the processes before logging in, but I did check to see how many instances where running when I logged in, it was 2, after selecting my toon, I found 7... All slowing down your PC.
There is another solution to this problem, Which you can have a program automatically lower the priority , everytime you run DDO. this will remember the priority state of what you used it last. I have to warn you though that, this tool is VERY POWERFUL, so please only adjust the processes are known to work in this article.. If you do other adjustments to the processes, you computer may not work the way you want it to. I WARNED YOU!!!!!
http://processhacker.sourceforge.net/ Process Hacker is a free advanced Task Manager which will provide you with a lot of information.
Start Process Hacker and then Open up and login to DDO program. Do Not select a Character at this time. You may have to do a ALT+TAB to switch between programs.
You will notice a long list of processes running on your PC, this is normal, Look down a you willl see dndclient..exe.. Each process is grouped by the program it is related to.
You will see a few AwesomiumProcess.exe, to the following steps to correct the issue.
Right Mouse click on AwesomiumProcess.exe select Priority, pick either lower or Idle level for the process. Then look down the list again and select Save for AwesomiumProcess.exe
This will lock in each and every process named Awesomeium.exe that starts up , so next time you run DDO the program will remember the state of which you selected the save state.
Go back to DDO and select your toon you want to play, go back to Process Hacker and you will notice a long list of AwesomiumProcess.exe running. Select one of them and do a right mouse click and check the priority, you will notice it is set to the level you saved it as.
DO NOT Terminate or end task Awesomium.exe, Even though I had no issues on my PC , it was reported to me that it disconnected others on DDO.
I have tested this program and have not had any real issues so far. The Awesomium.exe process is needed for the store, so I have mine set on idle. There is one side effect while using the program, one is that it seems to be a slight delay in switching toons from one to another.
The Great News is that I have experienced better video performance, and less lag, ok the numbers that fly over the monsters heads still might not be in sync, but when I move or press to fire at something, it responds much better then it did with AwesomiumProcess.exe running at normal priorty.
Like I said elsewhere my PC is not designed to play games, however, I think I have maximized my system, to run a peak performance, considering my PC uses about 25 Watts of power, and running DDO at Full HD 1080p resolution at 60 fps.
