Making a Perfect Packmule …. First I want to say Thanks for reading my tips for playing DDO.
I've been playing since update 11 of the DDO game, as I have figured a few things out , I shall share on how to get the most of the game., and lately people have been asking me about my packmules so. I'm not the best player out there, but I'll try to play smart.
To get the most out any game, you have to spend money, in DDO that is no exception. However there are some things that you should consider, priority.
Breaking News : July 15 2013: DDO Update...
DDO without any notification today changed the game of DDO, it now features Multi instance , You can now run DDO multiple times in the same PC, using Windows, no news about MAC OS, but 95% of the players use Windows, so now you don't need to run two PC's at the same time, or more... just make sure you have a lot of RAM to run 2 or more instances of the game, there are no modification or anything to do other then Hold the Alt Key and press Tab once to switch beteen screens. I accidently click on the start Icon of DDO and another login screen came up, so I logged in and well it worked :) Warning If you are running ddo on a slow PC or with one with less then 4 GB of RAM, your PC will be much slower, I would only use this for trading items and such, adventuring with multi instance would be a royal pain. To switch screens Hold down the ALT Key and press the TAB key once. The more instances you run the more memory and faster PC you'll need.
After playing the game, you will notice that your inventory space is quite lacking, and the bank slot is nice, but it's just not enough to hold on to the items that you need to use, even it it is every blue moon.
Now I can say that I will be able to increase your inventory or bank slots that you will have access to as easily as your backpack, but if you know ahead of time of what things you will need, then this guide is for you, or if are planning to do a True Reincarnation (TR) of one or more of your characters. I'll discuss more about True Reincarnation in a bit.
Your first step to managing your inventory is to create several FREE ACCOUNTS on the server that you choose when you make your first character. It is best to keep all of your characters on the same server or world, DDO does not allow you to trade items on different worlds or servers with other characters.
When you first login you have the option to select a world or go to the last world you logged into.
Your total favor is what you create when you start a new character in the same world.
Note* that if you can muster up 150 points of favor in the house of Cannith , you can start a new toon as an Artificer Class.
Here are some of the rewards at various Total Favor Point values.
400 Start Drow
1000 Start new toons on server at 4th level
1750 New toons can start 4th level and 32 point build
2500 Favored Soul Class .at 32 point build and 4th level
3000 Start any new toon above at 7th level
150* Cannith favor Can start Artificer Class build.
The extra free accounts allow you to create two characters per account, if you don't have a spreadsheet program, Libreoffice suite, and install the latest program, it is a full office suite program with a spreadsheet , word processor, database, presentation, draw, and some math calculation programs and it is open source and free!!!! Openoffice does the same thing but it is not as in active development, so they don't update new features or fix any bugs as often. here is the link for Libre office Suite :
You will use the spreadsheet to keep track of some simple things, such as account name, character name, Purpose of character, level of items, description example below.
I had a nice example but facebbok does not import tables into the Notes areas .
Account Name , Character Name , Level of items, Backpack Slots, Bank Slots, Used for (ie Collectables)
Account#1 ToonOne 1-3 12 8 Reincarnated Starter items
Account#1 ToonTwo Any 16 20 Collectables
Account#2 ToonThree 4-5 9 10
Account#2 Toonfour Any 20 20 Gems
Account#3 Toonfive 6-7 35 10
Account#3 Toonsix Any 40 17 Greenbag Items
When creating the accounts make sure you don't put items that you will be using at the same time on the same account, since this is going to be a free account, there will be no shared bank account access, or shall there be no favor, no bound to account items either.
I have been collecting Gems for over 6 months and I have come across 42 different types, so don't add collectibles on the character, I would just one one for Collectables or maybe two for them, Essences, then one character for 3 levels max each for all the other items like Gear and Weapons.
You may want to create one for all the green bag ingredients, in the upper levels like in Cannith Manufactory which will full up your green bags in a hurry, plus if you craft items then you'll need one for all the items, required to break down items etc.
When you create a toon, you'll will start at Korthos Island, the second character , can bypass doing the adventure, so be prepared to do some battles and swimming for a key, several times. Luckily you'll only have to do this once per account.
To make things easier to get around town, going from the bank to the bar, or to a guild ship, you might want to create either a bard, rogue or ranger, for the class of character, you'll want to have some Dex, Int and Str stats, make them Human to get the extra feat, add tumble, jump skills, and for the feats add Jump and Tumble to add +3 to each. This will help you jump over obstacles in and around the harbor and marketplace.
I usually put STR 16 Dex 16 INT 12 or more CON 10 or 12 and leave the rest at 8
Max out your Jump, Tumble and Swim Skills.
Put the new armor on, that you get from completing the Korthos Island adventure and ditch all the other items, and go directly to Stormreach , you may want to collect the free bags from the vendors for the Gems, Collectibles and the Twelve. They may come in handy depending on what you are planning to carry on them, Don't bother with binding the souls, or giving them money either, the Starter Items can't be sold., so drag them off the inventory box, and delete the starter rags, weapons, they are just taking up valuable inventory space, after all that''s why your reading right.
Once you have your toon parked in a convenient location, log off and create another one, don't worry you only have to run the Gretto quest once per account.
Note about guild ships, if you invite your packmule to your guild-ship and they log off while on your ship, they will on the next login be kicked off at the entrance of the airship access point in the marketplace, you might want to visit the captain and go to the location of their choice before logging off your packmule.
To trade items boot up your second PC and make sure they are close enough to each other and trade away or store your valuables to your other packmule, just like you would with any other character, or launch DDO again and login to your Packmule FREE account. (PC Windows not sure if MAC OS Supports multi instance yet or, if it ever will since I don't own a MAC) , nor do I know of anyone who runs DDO Natively from a MAC OS.
If you have a shared bank account or if you don't then I highly recommend it, especially if you are planning to True Reincarnate (TR) your character, at some point.
Create another toon on your main account, this may cost you a character slot, but it's cheaper then adding additional bank slots. Here is why you want to have a shared packtoon. For one, as you gain experience in the game, you characters will get numerous bound to character and more importantly bound to account items. The standard Shared bank account is 20 slots, which is like 1495 DDO points, however, adding more space is 995 per 10, you would spend 4400+ for 80 slots of storage, why when you can spend 1495 + 695 for one toon with 60 slots on the backpack, 20 in the bank and if you get lucky to find a broken black hole, and spend 10K in platinum pieces, you can get an additional 20 backpack slots for 100 inventory spaces. + the 20 shared account.
Why would would you pass this offer up. Now granted it only allows for 20 items at any one time, and you do have to login and logout of your main account every time you need to trade something with your own character, but you were going to do that anyway, but I just saved you at least 2000 Turbine points, even if you didn't buy an extra slot.
Augment Slots
In update 17 and now more then ever, there has been more Augments items, or even Augments given as rewards, so many of them can be bought in Gianthold, if your going to buy a pack then Gianthold is the one pack no one should do without.
The DDO Store has tried to capitalize on this , by offering a bag for Gems, Augments, etc, well I have the ultimate Augment toon. he can carry 60 +20 in the bank, plus it will save you about 800 or so DDO points. So go out and create your Augment toon today, and save your hard earned money. All the money I helped you save, should help you with getting the Gianthold Quest Pack.
Daily Dice Rolls:
Adding more free accounts can be a win win for you. You can get one dice roll per account. I wouldn't waste your time creating free accounts , just to get free dice rolls, but rolling the dice when you need to change a toon to get something from your inventory or to make more room in your packback does.
You will notice though some of the items are BTA , not to worry, Most of the potions and elixirs and are friend friendly, the target can be a friend of your party , just go to your packmule and goto the inventory drag your item you want to a empty hotbar and release, Now the item now can be targeted to your character that you play and will get the boost. This works best for the Experience and Slaying, guild boosts items.
Leveling your Packtoon ????
Yes it's true, you can make your Packmules better, The Daily Dice Rolls Rules have changed, in Update 19 you gain XP instead getting Essenesess for your crafting, your Packmule can be A Superhero , of sorts, with enough XP stones, the Points collected are BTA so every roll will give you 100 to 1000 XP, If your a VIP you get a Weekly roll or can bank your rolls if you login everyday for a week and bank it, I rolled a 96 today and got 6000 XP stone and a Major XP elixir good for 30% for 6 hours of questing. So in little time you should be able to level your Alt account packmules to new levels.
This tip is somewhat dangerous, so be careful and note the time of your transaction.
NOTE: You must use a General Vendor or Bartender to do this: DO NOT USE A PAWNSHOP VENDOR!!! - If you do, anyone can buy your items on the server from any instance that may be active.
In need of even more space.... I deliver....
How many times have you ran a quest and ran out of space, in one of those multi-part quests, like in Tangleroot, Catacombs, Vale, Eveningstar, etc, your getting the picture, you go out and come back to the bar and have to make room and decide which items you need to keep and which to sell off, don't fret, just take look over the items you need now, and sell off any extra items.
Just sell the items at the bar, and note the time. Go back out and continue your adventuring for the day .
Have your packmule close at hand to make room, and trade off some items, go back to the bar and get all your items back... then you can decide what to do with them.. Seller beware the Bar is a secondary Pawnshop, yes you read that right, if you don't collect your items within 24 hours and 00 seconds your item will be gone for good. Now if your lucky to know someone with high haggle skill, or if you have one on your account, trade off with that character, and have them sell your leftrovers, and you'll get extra money then when you sold your items the first time around.
This is not a guide for TR'ing your toon but having a few mules or more to carry your needed non bound items in is essential, especially when you gain new levels of your character, you won't have your go looking for items or farming for items in there next life, it is best to farm in your first life and get the bound to character items in the bank, and keep them there when you need them, and put the bound to account items in the bound to account toon items where any toon can access or use.
If you farm on your first life, you won't be struggling to get those items you need later on, and getting the most favor is the most important, the favor rewards speak for themselves.
When you level to the next one, you'll be able to go to the bank or packmule and trade the next weapon or whatever you want. Reminds me of going to auction hall and looking things up, but only better. If you get more items in your first life you'll be able to sell your leftover gear in your next life and have more money to buy things.
Some useful information about TR'ing your character.
You'll start with nothing, except a bank which is a withdrawal only of your previous life bank items
Your Favor is 0 so always try to get the most favor before you do a True Reincarnation.
This is a short guide below of what your keep and what you lose or change.
